Reward yourself and how

The new year is around the corner and if you are like me you have probably already created your New Year’s Resolution. I started planning mine in October (I knew it would take a couple months of prep work, don’t judge.) For most of us coming up with ideas on what areas in our lives need improvement isn’t hard, its actually doing it. Positive thoughts here, let’s say you start slaying your goals how are you going to reward yourself?

If you are like the majority of people health and weight are at the top of your list. There are a couple of different ways you can reward yourself.

Food

While the idea of rewarding yourself with food sounds like a no brainier I would say no to this idea completely. Yay you lost 10 pounds and now you want that pizza that you have denied yourself for the past month. That isn’t going to work and here is why, what ever diet you choose to eat if it includes not eating something you love chances are it won’t fit in your lifestyle and last. Also when you do get to eat it the urge to binge eat it will increase tremendously. So if you want to use food as a reward do so in a different way. Go to that really nice restaurant that you don’t normally get to enjoy and make a big deal of it.

Money

This is a great idea if you are a saver. It can be a dollar a pound or something else based on your personal budget. Once you hit that goal you can spend that money on something you want. It can be related to your goals for example new workout clothes. It could also go for something completely unrelated, that girls trip to the beach you have planned, well now you have spending cash.

Gifts

A physical token of your achievements is a great way to show how far you have came. A great example of this is a new nail polish bottle for every 10 pounds lost. This is a personal one that I’m doing because it does double duty. I am a nail biter and painting my nails helps me not want to do it as often. So if I can have pretty nails and lose weight its a win win. I would say the gifts should be small (less then $10) and here is why. You may think that it should be a new dress or other clothes but if you are planning on losing significant amount of weight you are going to need to replace those items anyways. Other ideas include makeup or gift cards to your favorite place (Target, craft stores, amazon)

Experiences

Another idea is to reward yourself with an experience. Some ideas include personal time away like a massage. Or maybe adventure is more your speed, you finally made the weight limit to go zip lining so you make a day of it. It could also be a fun and relaxing trip to a vineyard for a wine tasting.

Whichever way you chose to go on rewarding yourself just don’t forget to do so. I’m sure there are lots of other ways to reward yourself let me know in the comments. Remember that reaching your goals will take some time but it will be worth it in the end.
